In the Garden of the Clown
Program notes
Original: In the garden of the clown
„When the flute and the tuba play together, there is always a clown. I´ve had a peek into his garden…“
Igor Kuljeric
This is a masterfully instrumented, extravaganza trio, featuring flute, tuba and piano. The opening theme is an old island song giving hommage to Kuljeric´s ancestors from the tiny island of Silba in the Adriatic Sea. In the sections that follow, the instruments are involved in a powerful yet delicate rythmical counterpoint. A brief reminiscence of the initial theme leads to a stormy finale. The performers are invited to explore the colours and the expressive possibilities of their instruments, both making them blend or contrast each other in this joyful music making.
