Early student works.
"This is one of my first orchestral compositions, created during the study of composition in the master workshop of Stjepan Šulek. It relies on the strict discipline of varying the two-part theme, whose basic melodic-rhythmic and harmonic characteristics sometimes recede, sometimes approach the original. Variation, as the most complex form of transformation and development of musical ideas, stands here in the service of music itself and the emanation of its pure musical postulates. The symphonic variations were composed immediately after my mother's untimely death and therefore the melancholic and meditative character of the musical theme from the beginning of the composition remains the predominant image of the entire piece."
