Commission of Osor Musical Evenings. Osor was premiered at the festival on JUL 14 2002 and Stabat Mater in 2003, both by Croatian RTV Choir and the composer conducting.
Kuljerić had a long and frutiful collaboration with the film director Danijel Mašurić who was also the founder and artistic director of the festival (Osor is an old town on the island of Cres) which has always focused on Croatian music and commissioning new pieces. To honor the tribute of the composer to the festival, a statue of his head is exhibited at the entrance of the city on the outern stone walls.

Program notes

Stabat Mater is written like a musical fresco, an image of the crucified Jesus and Mary his mother under the cross. It is the musical sublimation of maternal pain. The music focuses on this deeply human feeling and tries to experience it in all its tragedy but through the idea of redemption. Human tragedy is transposed into the divine. (I.K. 2003)
